Basic Course for Scorers

Basic course for scorers

With over 100 teams registered for the league games for the 2011 season, SCA set itself a target of over getting at least 50 registered scorers to officiate in all the league games. The first training course for the scorers was held on the 22nd and 23rd of January this year. The fact that 34 participants had registered for the course was encouraging.

The syllabus included various topics some of which are the duties of the scorer, Laws of cricket relevant to the scorer, mechanics of scoring, ICC symbols, laws specific to SCA, practical exercises and so on. At the end of the course, participants had to take an examination which was to score for a 20 over game. They were provided with a ball by ball written commentary. 80% of the participants passed the test.

The overwhelming response to the first course and the request from several clubs saw the need for a second such course to be organised between the 25th and 28th April. We had 24 participants for this course and the result was a 75% pass.

Certificate of participation was given away to all participants while the certificate of achievement was awarded to all those who passed the test.

SCA thanks all the participants and encourages all the clubs to register at least two of the members from the team for the oncoming courses which are held free of charge. Together, let us take cricketing in Singapore to the next level.
